Columbia Pics buys crime drama spec script "The Big Stone Grid" by writer S. Craig Zahler. Per THR

    Described as a dark and intense modern-day crime saga in the vein of Seven and Marathon Man, the story is set in motion after a puzzling suicide prompts an investigation that leads two decorated detectives to discover a terrifying extortion ring that operates within the secret underbelly of New York City.

Zahler, who topped The Black List in 2006, is repped by UTA, Caliber Media and PJ Shapiro

By my count, that is the 19th spec script to sell in 2011.

The 19th spec script didn't sell in 2010 until April 27th, so sales are up year-to-date.

Note: This is the 10th spec script to be acquired in March.
