James L. Brooks' Gracie Films buys teen comedy spec script "Besties" from writer Kelly Fremon. Per Deadline:
The script is a John Hughes-style comedy about two high school girls who are best friends until one dates the other's older brother, who is totally his sister's nemesis.
Mid-six figure purchase with Fremon attached to direct.

Fremon is repped by ICM and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.

By my count, this is the 21st spec script to sell in 2011.

The 21st spec script didn't sell in 2010 until May 20th, so sales are up year-to-date.

Note: This is the 12th spec script to be acquired in March.
