Universal buys comedy spec "Dirty Grandpa" from what sounds like a first-timer John Phillips. Per Deadline:
Script's about a recently widowed older man who gets to know his grandson who is about to marry a girl who is not right for him.
Phillips is repped by ICM.

By my count, this is the 10th spec script sale of 2011.

In 2010, the 10th spec script sold on March 19th, so sales are up year-to-date.

UPDATE: More information on Phillips from THR:
Phillips is a New York-based writer-performer out of the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre and Grandpa is his first script.

The sale was in the mid-six figures.
So another first-timer sells a spec script. Congratulations to John. If anyone knows him, let him know I'd love to do a GITS Q&A.
