Animation Picture Company buys family horror spec "Zombie Pet Shop" from writer E.L. Katz. Per Variety:
"Zombie Pet Shop" concerns a mysterious plague that sweeps through a mall pet shop, turning all of the animals into zombies. An ordinary pug named Joey must come to the rescue to find the antidote that will save his four-legged friends, as well as the humans that might take them home.
I know, I know. I can hear your heads exploding as you read this. Another zombie movie?!?! Yet a further sign of the 'similar but different' business ethos in Hwood: This is a zombie movie, only it's animated and for the whole family. On the other hand, the sale of this script is another example of a change that has occurred in the world of animated movies. You never used to see people write let alone sell animation spec scripts as all such projects were developed in-house.

Katz is represented by Gersh and Generate.

By my count, this is the 6th spec script sale of 2011.
